Returns Analytics

Returns analytics that explains the number, not just reports it

Every ecommerce brand can tell you their return rate. Very few can tell you which SKU is dragging it, which acquisition channel imports the worst customers, or how much a single reason code is costing them per month. Reversify closes that gap. We turn raw returns data into a small, ranked list of decisions you can act on this week.

  • Return rate by SKU, variant, cohort, and channel
  • Reason-code concentration analysis with cost attribution
  • Refund vs exchange margin impact per product line
  • Alerts when a SKU or cohort breaches a return threshold

The three questions returns analytics has to answer

Where is the return rate coming from? Averages hide everything that matters. A healthy 12% catalog return rate can contain a 40% offender that alone accounts for a fifth of all returns. Reversify ranks SKUs, variants, and categories by contribution to total returns and total refund dollars, not by return rate in isolation.

Why are customers returning? Reason codes are only useful when they are aggregated against product and cohort dimensions. "Too small" concentrated on one size in one style is a fit-guide problem. The same reason spread across a category is a fabric or manufacturing problem. Reversify surfaces the pattern instead of leaving you to eyeball a spreadsheet.

What is it actually costing? A return costs more than the refund. Return shipping, restocking, reverse-logistics fees, and margin lost to markdown of returned units all matter. Reversify calculates net-of-returns margin so you can see which SKUs look profitable but are actually losing money after the reverse flow.

Reason codes are only useful when they are structured

Most returns platforms let customers pick from a menu of reasons. Those reasons are usually free-text or a shallow taxonomy that mixes product issues ("wrong size"), expectation issues ("didn't look like the photos"), and logistics issues ("arrived damaged"). Reversify normalizes these into a consistent framework so the same feedback aggregates cleanly across every channel and geography.

The normalized data unlocks a different kind of question. Instead of "what percent of returns are sizing?" you can ask "which styles have sizing returns concentrated in a specific size, and what would happen to margin if we retired that size?" That is the difference between a returns dashboard and a returns operating system.

Connecting returns to acquisition

Return behavior is a cohort trait. Customers acquired through discount codes tend to return more than customers acquired through organic content. Customers acquired through paid social sometimes return two or three times the rate of email subscribers, and specific creatives can attract specific return profiles. Reversify joins returns data to acquisition source so you can see which channels are actually profitable after the reverse flow settles.

This is where returns analytics pays for itself. Turning off a single paid campaign whose customers return at three times the average, or excluding a discount code from a specific product line, can move blended profitability more than any post-purchase feature. You cannot make that call without cohorted returns data.

What Reversify ships to your team

The platform gives merchandising, product, and marketing each a view they can act on. Merchandising sees the SKU ranking and reason-code detail. Product sees fit and quality patterns clustered by manufacturer and material. Marketing sees cohort profitability with returns netted out. Every view links back to the underlying orders so nothing is a black box.

On top of that, Reversify sends a weekly written briefing summarizing what changed: which SKUs entered the top-ten worst offenders, which channels moved, and which product decisions the data now supports. The point is not to add another dashboard to your morning. It is to make sure the numbers actually turn into decisions.
