Why inventory recovery matters more than reorder logic
Most inventory tooling optimizes the front of the curve: how much to order, when to reorder, which supplier to use. That is important, but it is only half of the problem. The other half — the half that quietly destroys gross margin — is what happens to the units that are already sitting in your warehouse when demand shifts. A single unforecast season, a viral competitor drop, or a sizing issue can convert healthy inventory into a liability in weeks.
Inventory recovery reframes the question. Instead of "what should I buy next?" it asks "what do I already own that is not paying for itself, and what is the highest-margin way to move it?" That single reframe is often worth a full point of blended gross margin, because recovered units carry no additional acquisition cost — you have already paid for the goods, the freight, and the storage. Every unit you sell above liquidation is pure margin recapture.
